One more quick post for tonight. I made shrimp stir fry (ingredients are below although I don’t have a picture of the finished item) and shrimp dumplings, both from Cooks Illustrated recipes. The dumplings are above. I think they look great. They were a bit salty (I’d leave out the salt next time) and crunchy [...]

After the gardens, Mom met Dad and me at the Empress hotel. It’s pretty hard to miss so I figured it was a good landmark. As luck would have it, given that Canada is basically like Europe, they do tea and the Empress had a fine tea service. Without too much convincing, Mom and Dad [...]

Recently took a trip to Vancouver with my parents. I flew into Seattle, we grabbed breakfast and then drove out. Side note to Bec: we were barely there or I would have come visit you. Promise. We ate breakfast at this cute little place call Lola that I found through Yelp. It was delicious. I [...]

Every Friday night I try to make challah for me and hubby. Some weeks are just too busy, but I do make an effort. I make a whole loaf (about 1.5 lbs), but it usually only lasts us the weekend since hubby loves it and we use extra to make french toast. The recipe I [...]

Some friends were coming over for BBQ and I wanted to have strawberry shortcake. But I wanted individual ones so I figured I would use my minibunt pan to make little angel food cakes. I put all the extra into cupcake containers. Turns out the cupcakes worked much better since it was insanely hard to [...]

Found the coolest drink at a sushi place the other night: melon cream soda. Tastes like cream soda, but also totally has a melon flavor to it. Quite tasty!

For my husband’s birthday we were going to go to his favorite Indian spot, but they were unfortunately closed (for “inventory” — we hear they’re switching management unfortunately). So instead I got to choose and we decided to go to a Chinese restaurant called Fu Lam Mum which had pretty good reviews on Yelp.

Some random food posts coming up. Tried this cakey appetizer at a local Persian restaurant. No, I didn’t know it was green before I ordered it. Can’t remember what it was but it was all vegetarian and didn’t have much taste. I’m sure if I saw the name I would remember. But I won’t be [...]

This is the salty plum soda at Evergreen Garden in SF. I love trying newthings so I had to get it. It was interesting. Not as weird as you mightthink but kinda salty yet sweet. Kinda like yogurt covered pretzels but notquite that good either.

For my housewarming party I went a little crazy baking cupcakes. It’s what I do. The flavors were s’mores (chocolate with marshmallow–my fave), English toffee, vanilla chai and a secret flavor! We had a little contest to see if people could guess the cupcake flavor. Since you can no longer taste them, I’ll just tell [...]
