This past spring I decided to redo our side yard. It was in a sad sad state. Sorely neglected. A finished picture of the side yard is over on the left.
My goal was to make it like a tiny oasis. My dance room has two French doors that open out on to it so I wanted it to be a little place of zen. I also planned to use the pots which had just been sitting on the concrete to grow some herbs.
The first order of business was replanting the lily in the lower left. It was in the large plastic red pot and I hated the look of that pot. This was a significant amount of effort because that lily had been in there since before we moved in.
Next I laid out the paving stones. They actually match the rest of the backyard. I had to go back and get more of them. Originally I got 16 but that only got me about 75% of the way. Picked up 10 more and then used the extras by the pool.
I bought several bags of the black mulch. I also had to go back and buy more the next day. I learned that it’s always better to just add more mulch. It really makes it look nice.
Finally, I replanted a number of the pots with some herbs using lava rocks and some fresh potting soil.
I’m really happy with how it turned out. Check out some of the before and after photos!
Here is how it started out. Check out the pots sitting off to the side. They’d been there forever. And the barren dirt between the trees. The trees are some really old camellias that look beautiful when they bloom.
And here are some comparison photos.
