Everyone needs a pair of sushi pants, right? Okay, maybe not, but they certainly are fun.
I’ve had the fabric for these for close to 2 years. They’re from the now-closed branch of Spoonflower called Sprout Patterns which printed a pattern in a custom print directly to the fabric, saving you the time of laying out your pattern. You just cut it directly out of the fabric on the printed lines. It was a neat idea although there were some issues like not being able to customize the fit, but for a basic pattern like leggings it was really awesome and let you throw together some super fast in any number of awesome prints.
I was supposed to make them with a friend (she ordered the same ones), but then her sewing machine broke and to my knowledge she still hasn’t fixed it. Yes, I’m giving her the side-eye. I got tired of waiting and wanted to get them off my sewing area so I just decided to put them together and I’m so glad I did because they are perfect for my work from home wardrobe. The fabric is Spoonflower’s cotton spandex jersey and the design is Sushi by Kristin Nohe Juchs.
The pattern is the Sloan Leggings by Hey June in size small. When I previously made these leggings from Sprout/Spoonflower, I ordered it in their sport lycra in a medium based on my measurements and it was way too big. That fabric is super stretchy. I ultimately ended up sizing down to about an extra small. Knowing that the cotton spandex jersey doesn’t have quite as much stretch, I went with a small this time and it was perfect.
I also previously had some serious issues with the knit interfacing recommended for the waistband. It got super funky on me as soon as it stretched even a little. So this time, I lined it with some nude powermesh from Joann’s and it’s great. It gives it some extra support and stays up nicely as you can see below. I really like where these hit. Not super high waisted, but not hip huggers either. I even wore these through an entire yoga class without any slippage. Yes, that top photo isn’t just for show 🙂
This is a super fast, super easy pattern that even a beginner could handle. I really like that there’s some shaping around the calf. Now if they just had side pockets for my phone, they’d be perfect! Maybe at some point I’ll modify them . . .
Nice, but you’ve obviously been eating Thai because you hair got into the sriracha sauce
LOLz 😀 Thanks for noticing the updated color!
