Just a little seasonal knit. For whatever reason I had a strong desire to create a knit pumpkin. So I did.
The pattern is the free Bulky Pumpkin by Fiber Me This and the yarn is a super squishy and soft superwash merino called Shepherd Bulky from Lorna’s Laces. It really is delightful and I wish that wool didn’t make me itch because I’d love a sweater out of this exact color otherwise. Even if wool is soft to the touch like this one, when it’s against my neck and arms, I start to itch. I don’t really get it, but I’ve learned the hard way that I should just get yarn that will make my skin happy.
Anyhow, I doubled the size of the pattern and cast on twice as many stitches because I started it at the size suggested and when I was almost done, I thought it was way too small so I frogged it and start over. It’s a pretty fast knit. And at double the size I was able to use circular needles instead of DPNs which I find annoying so it went even faster. This was my first time doing cables and they are surprisingly easy! So I’ll definitely be finding something else with cables to try again because it’s such a cool effect.
The pumpkin is pretty much exactly one hank of yarn, so about 140 yards. I used some leftover Malabrigo Rios from my Homegirl Sweater to crochet the stem. It’s stuffed with rolls of extra quilt batting. And now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that my dogs don’t destroy it.
I love your knitted pumpkin!
You are so creative with fabric as well as yarn!
Thank you! I’m relatively new to knitting but enjoying it 🙂
