Polaris Bag — March, Bag of the Month Club

SewingBy PigletMarch 20, 2016Leave a comment

This month for the Bag of the Month Club, Sew Sweetness was the designer. The bag was a cute little hand purse which I decided to make. You may notice that I have not posted the bag for February. That’s because I haven’t made it. It’s not a bag I think I’d use, so…

Mighty Lucky Quilting Club – February

Quilting, SewingBy PigletMarch 16, 2016Leave a comment

For February for Mighty Lucky Quilting Club, the focus was on improv quilting and “less is more.” I hadn’t really done improv quilting before, so this was a fun exercise, although I’m not sure it’s really something I’ll spend much time doing in the future. First, I picked out some fabrics. The green is my…

Earlier this week we got the next chapter — and the next block — in the murder mystery quilt. Grabbed some scraps and whipped it up pretty quickly. It’s so fun to see the story unfolding!

St. Patrick’s Day Fabric Basket

SewingBy PigletMarch 3, 2016Leave a comment

Here’s another little one hour basket which I made. These are so fast and easy. This was actually made as a sampler for a class I was supposed to teach. After pre-cutting the fabric for the 10 baskets, these strips were left over and I couldn’t let them go to waste so I used them…

Happy National Pig Day!

RandomBy PigletMarch 1, 2016Leave a comment

Yes, once again it is March 1, the day when we celebrate the glorious pig! Now, of course, we don’t need an excuse to celebrate pigs here at Pigs in Pajamas, but if you’re curious about the origins of this magnificent idea, check out the Wikipedia page on National Pig Day. Hooray!

I recently joined up with another mystery quilt: Murder Mystery Quilt. I had so much fun with Midnight Mystery Quilt (finish post coming soon!) that I was game to try another one. This one is super cool and totally up my alley. Not only are you doing a mystery quilt, but you’re also solving a…

One more post for tonight. Finally posting on my b One more post for tonight. Finally posting on my blog about my casual Kitty Pryde cosplay I did for ComicCon and costume college right before the pandemic. I would have posted sooner but the pandemic messed up my clock and I didn't realize how long it had been. 🤪 Anyhow, it's up now. Also with details about my Lockheed backpack. This dress was the first thing I drafted after making my own moulage. I still love it so much and hope I have another chance to wear it soon.

Slowly making progress on my wrap dress for advanc Slowly making progress on my wrap dress for advanced flat pattern at @canadafashiondept (well not too slowly since it's due on Tuesday 😝). Lots of flounces waiting to be sewn. And some last minute pocket bags. I wasn't going to do pockets. But then I had to do pockets. Because pockets are the best. But I wanted to keep them thin and light so I only double layered (like the rest of the dress) the part of the pocket that will be seen.

Had a great workshop with @peppermintpinwheels thi Had a great workshop with @peppermintpinwheels this weekend! I would describe it as structured improvisation. I'm definitely more of a planner so this pushed me outside my comfort zone but I like where it is going so far and I like that I finally have something to do with these scraps I've been saving! I've already cut out sheets to keep going (as soon as I find some free time). Thanks to @siliconvalleymqg for hosting!

Remember that 3/4 circle skirt I was working on fo Remember that 3/4 circle skirt I was working on for my @canadafashiondept class in the last post? Well, it's taken me a bit longer than expected to work out the details of the flounces.

I realized after drafting the flounce at the proposed 2" that it was not the level of drama I was hoping for. So I drafted 2 more at 3" and 4" with the same size center length. I cut them all out of fabric and you can see how different they look in the first photo, both horizontally and hanging vertically as they will be on the skirt.

Next I pinned them to the skirt to see which I liked best 2nd photo). Well, I liked them all. So the next step was to make flounces that went from 2"->3" and 3"->4". I drafted one and it was pretty time intensive. At this point I realized I could just do this with the power of math and tiled printing on my computer (yeah, you think I would have realized this sooner). So I did. The third photo is validating my computer drafted one with my hand drafted one.

Since I decided I liked the 4" flounce at the bottom, I have a couple of adjustments to make to my skirt pattern, but then I will finally have all the pieces drafted and can start sewing.

Drafting a 3/4 wrap circle skirt from scratch for Drafting a 3/4 wrap circle skirt from scratch for my @canadafashiondept flat pattern class. The projects I made during @siliconvalleymqg virtu The projects I made during @siliconvalleymqg virtual retreat! The oven mitts from yesterday's reels. A cute pin cushion. And of course worked on a number of quilts.

As mentioned in the reel descriptions, for the mitts I used the free @gertie18 pattern available on the Charm Patterns website. Bread fabric is from @spoonflower and the design is by @claudiecb.

The needle organizer pin cushion was provided to us, so I'm not sure where that came from exactly.

The blue and gold quilt is the fig leaf pattern by @tigheflanagan that I was wrapping up from his recent workshop with @siliconvalleymqg
