I meant to post this over a week ago, but between travel and work, life got the better of me, so you’re getting it now. These are the Fiske Pajamas from Cashmerette, their latest pattern. I actually made 2 sets of these for the release, so you’ll get another post tomorrow about the second set. I love how these turned out so I’m excited to share them with you as well as some close ups of some of the details.
The Fiske pattern is actually a set of patterns including the pajama set you see here with longer options for both the sleeves and pants as well as a robe and a camisole. The camisole has a built in bra and while I’m more likely to wear this type of pajama set to bed, I’m excited to try the camisole as just a general top or dress option. There’s also a nightshirt version of the top above.
For this version, I made the sizes I measure at — 4 C/D for the bust graded to 6 at the waist and 8 at the hip. Beyond that, there were no adjustments. I chose the short sleeve version and the shorts. I originally had cut out, interfaced and even sewed on cuffs for the sleeves and shorts, but then I decided I didn’t like them with this fabric. The fabric is a lovely flowy rayon and the cuffs were just a bit too much. Partly because of the interfacing, but also due to the length. I felt the shorter length was more comfortable. But if you want more coverage the option is there.
About the fabric, it’s Night Sky from Art Gallery Fabrics that I picked up at Needles Studio. It’s soft and I love the fact that it has stars and constellations on it. It just makes me think of bedtime. I already had some fabric earmarked for this project, but then this fabric was too perfect. And look how well it matches the mug that I made! Same color with stars! Clearly meant to be.
I want to highlight a few things that I really liked about this pattern. You can see the waistband above. They actually have you stitch through it only twice, but I did an extra line of stitching because I did my first 2 lines too far apart. Really you can do whatever you want there. I like this kind of waistband because then the elastic doesn’t flip around inside of it. However, my favorite part of these shorts are the pockets. You can see them above, but here are some close ups.
The pockets are so slick! They look like they are part of the seam. The way they are put together is quite clever and actually quite simple for achieving such a clean look.
They’re also the type of pockets that aren’t just side seam pockets. They are held at the top in the waistband. I can’t stand it when pajama pants have pure side seam pockets because they flop around inside the pants. With this kind, the waistband helps support them if you put heavy stuff in them like a cell phone (which I always do) and it also prevents them from flopping around.
So, yeah, the pockets are the reason these are now my go-to pattern for pajamas pants. I frequently find that random fabric that I only have a yard of but want something fun. These shorts are a great option for that and I will definitely be making them again.
Gratuitous dog photo for you. What can I say? They are the cutest photobombers.
The other part of the pajamas that I really like is the finish on the collar and buttons placket. It’s got a facing that’s sewn down and it gives a very clean finish on the inside as well. The only places that I needed to serge were the side seams, shoulder seams, and armhole. Everything else is enclosed. You could do a french seam on the shoulder and side if you really wanted to. I believe there is a way to do it for round seams like the armhole, but serging also works great. But again, very nice clean inside finish.
Oh, and almost forgot. The buttons are shimmery little things which I also got from Needles. I would have liked star shaped buttons, but I find weird shaped buttons harder to, well, button, so sparkly round ones are good.
And since I couldn’t figure out what to do with my hair for these photos, I quickly whipped up a scrunchie in my extra fabric (literally in 5 minutes because I happened to have a long scrap). I figured this was at least accurate since I’m most likely to just toss my hair in a bun when I’m in pajamas.
Stay tuned for the other version of these which I’ll share soon!

These pajamas have a whole constellation of features that will give them a staring role in anyones wardrobe!
